JHJ's Blood Donation Drive 2011

Lawyers, at times, may want your blood... literally.

JHJ once again decided to make blood donation our charity event this year which we held on 9 April 2011 but this time at our own office building. We decided, despite the extra logistical considerations, it would be better to invite everyone we know to this event and at the same time view our office which we are quite proud of. The irony of the fact that we were calling our clients, and everyone else we knew, for blood did not escape us. Neither did it for the people whom we called.

"Wah... now lawyers want my blood also ah? Haha..!"

would be the typical response we received for almost every call. And we appreciate the sense of humour of our clients, family and friends; we ourselves made fun and speculated on whose blood, amongst us, would actually be viable for donation. But the firm as a whole, also having donated blood last year, decided it would be for a good cause to do it again. We called Pusat Darah Negara, who provided the necessary equipment, and made all the necessary arrangements to have our clients, family and friends donate their blood in the comfort of our office building; including getting up in the wee hours of the morning to prepare a scrumptious meal for all who came. Of particular note was our "Knowledge" guy's fried rice and his own special recipe sambal! Kudos to Andrew - never knew you could cook so well.

The day began at 8.30am with the arrival of Pusat Darah's staff who deftly set-up their equipment and portable beds in no time. The rest of us made the necessary arranging of tables and chairs and food and at 10am we welcomed our first donor! We kept our doors open till 2pm and entertained all who came with casual but lively conversation and the scrumptious spread. We are flattered that many who came decided to just have their breakfast or lunch here with us and claimed that they no longer needed to look for food elsewhere after that. And not to be left out, we took turns donating blood as well. The funny irony is, of course, some of us had to be rejected because there was iron deficiency in our blood and like. And not because they refused to accept lawyer's blood, contrary to popular belief, because it is toxic.

All in all, at the end of the day we all felt good knowing that even if one life was saved because we decided to care, all our effort and any sacrifices we made toward this end would have been more than worth it.
